William Blakes London

Modernism

Anyone who knows about poetry should have a read of this modernist perspective of the poem, 'London', I like the interpretation, raises some interesting views.

Utopia

Utopia

A very interesting documentary, really opens up your eyes to the fact that there are so many meanings behind the word,'Utopia'.

For my final major project I'm looking into the expansive meaning behind two words, 'Socialism' and 'Utopia', and I think this documentary really helped me think what route to go down, and I feel it has to be with the variation of social classes and the hierarchy that still lives on to this day and everywhere in the world.

Here's a link to see the trailer:

Anish Kapoor

Anish Kapoor

I think this man is a genius, the things he does that is so simple yet so powerful. The reason why I like this guy's work is because he produces physical sculptures but yet are so visually clever, you can feel a certain emotion connecting you to his work. I've been looking at his work to come up with some inspiration.

Below I will post some of his work and a link to his website also so that you can see articles wrote about him, watch videos and etc.

Future City

London City Farmhouse

Yet again I have used Deezen.com as another source to gain some inspiration for my ideas for my final major project, I'm still liking the whole future sustainability city concept.

Another graduates work, this time she's from The Bartlett, I'm impressed with your ideology of a big London City Farmhouse, very clever, self efficient and helping with developments of local produce and to be more green efficient.

Definitely food for thought there, here's a link down below if you want to read more about Caterina's future city.

Do Ho Suh

Do Ho Suh

Everyone should check out this guys work for inspiration, he is a genius.

I really like the fact that he is always experimenting with fabrics, it's such a delicate material to use to create a final piece for an exhibition.

Down below I have attached a link to his video, he talks about his installation that was at the Tate Modern in 2011.

I am thinking of doing an installation, however don't know whether to do it digital, or physical (by using materials) or perhaps a combinations of both.

Green Engineering

Green Engineering

Green engineering is something that isn't really big here in the UK. The whole harvest and grow your own food is something that has developed a lot in recent years, and shall keep progressing if people keep raising the advantages of growing your own, but there isn't much in the way of marketing out there for the building sector of green engineering, if there is it’s very slow and really behind the other countries. In terms of green engineering mechanically; reducing low emissions and pollution we’re at an advance stage in the industry, for example look at how many cyclists there are now in and around London, the Boris bikes are great fun, not just for tourists but for people visiting London, and it gives a different perspective of the city, however there needs to be more across the country, furthermore look how many more hybrid cars are now in the city, we’re slowly cutting emissions as a nation, which for the economy is very bright, and for the long term future will set an example to other nations to follow.

Nevertheless there’s always a sense of playing catch up to other nations in regards to green engineering in the building franchise, perhaps the architecture society in Britain doesn't think there’s a need for it here, perhaps the more acclimatized countries use it the most because of their weather and use it to their advantage to seek various ways for low cost effective builds and be ahead of the green engineering era. If the architecture society thinks that there’s no need for it here then they are wrong, gradually over the past 10 years houses are now acquitting themselves with solar panels, double/triple glazing windows, which in all accounts is a great thing because they realize the power of the weather here, for sunlight we’re not known as the sunniest of all places, but the power of the solar panel helps massively to cut down our bills, because for them 1-2 weeks of sunlight in the summer we can store enough hot water and heating for the whole of the winter, and having double/triple glazed windows surely counts for the cost of not needing to turn your heating on because of the warm insulation that the windows help keep inside the house. So in theory the warm water you have stored to keep for the heating can be now used for washing the dishes, washing clothes, have the luxury of having 2-3 showers a day, surely adding these resources to your home is a good thing?

A new advanced way of living in the new Eco-friendly era is the need of a green roof, I've slowly noticed a few houses across Britain starting to adapt to the new idea of this clever green engineering faze. This is more of a future resource that we should take into consideration, (to have a green roof put in), it’s slightly pricey than a normal slated roof, but you will reap the benefits hugely, it’s far more efficient and yet again another resource to keep your house well insulated, and the best thing you don’t need to call out the roofer to clean your tiles, or replace the broken ones, depending if you use artificial grass the only maintenance you will need to do is to cut the grass. Now there’s one experience that will live long in the memory, imagine the view from your rooftop.
We have come a long way in the terms of keeping Britain green, but there needs to be more awareness raised in the building franchise especially because they are the ones suffering and families are missing out on low cost effective bills. Green engineering is a great investment, and a great solid foundation to start off for your future.

London Future City

Water City

I was going through some of my old University work I produced 5 years ago, and low and behold I found our group's project work and it was about re-imagining the possibility of living in a sustainable way but on the River Thames, it was a project to do with Green Engineering.

Maybe this is a sign that I should look into doing more research into re-imagining a new way of sustainable life in London or even so re-create the Park underground, I should perhaps find and pick a location that needs re-developing for either both ideologies or just one of them.

Have a look at see what you think of the idea?

Bjarke Ingels

Yes Is More

I have followed this guy for a while, I brought his book entitled, 'Yes Is More', and found it remarkably interesting, he is what you call, 'a modernist architect', however he is on another level I just find it fascinating how he comes up with his methodologies of researching about a project, recreating the brief, then coming up with various concepts through his analytic research, and wow his final outcome never disappoints.

He is a visionary, he's always thinking ecological and takes the right paths on ensuring that the projects he undertakes stay green and environmentally friendly.

Any architects out there, 3D designers, visionaries, illustrators and planners take a look at this guy's work.

Lenscape

Lenscape by Kine Solberg

Even though on my recent posts I have talked about doing something on the lines of re-imagining a futuristic city of London, or recreating parks but underground yet again in London, however I do like the aesthetic side of architecture and all the various materials, forms, narrative, utilities and it's purpose's it has in every day life.

What Kine Solberg has done is genius, re-imagining what the landscape would look like through different proportional lenses, I mean our eyes see all at pretty much 100% all the time but we can never distort everything, like objects, people, buildings, movement, Solberg has taken something from context and modified it so we can have this satisfaction of fun.

I'll give another example imagine your in the kitchen, everything is in order like cookers over there, cutlery in the draw, the washing machine is under the work top, sinks over in the corner. With 3D manipulation wouldn't it be intriguing to re-develop a kitchen? change its functionality ? Then all of a sudden your utilities are displaced, everything is not in accordance anymore.

That's what Solberg has done.

Below is the link of Kine Solberg's article, have a read.

Conceptual Tower

The Conceptual Tower by Elly Ward

I really think this is an amazing project, she chose the subject of children to investigate further into how we should potentially look into another way of living, as she quotes, "the only way is up".

The one thing I found fascinating is the connection, relationship and the understanding of children's spatial awareness and that as Corbusier once famously said, 'house is a machine for living', in this case it would be the, 'tower is a machine for living', its a smart direction to push her case of this new age of habitation.

We all take for granted children's interpretation of living, but whether we like it or not they are the next generation so its important to hear their side of the story on living the city life.

Down below I have posted the link, so guys please feel free into learning more of Elly Ward's proposal, very intriguing.

Reinventing the habitat

The Habitat

During this Ted Talk Moshe Safdie comes up with an excellent answer on how we can keep up to date and creating new ways of incorporating everyday life within the realm of the most densest cities around the world, its a very interesting concept to sustain living within an apartment building.

I'm thinking perhaps for an idea for my final major project, looking into the idea of re-imaging living in London within a sustainable apartment building, to see if it would create a new dimension in living in the big city, because already London is very over-populated so perhaps the way to think of our living environments would be to think of this idea.

A new type of Park?

A Park underneath the hustle and bustle of New York City

Dan Barasch has put all his time, energy and money to create something very complex, very sustainable and very modern but also something that makes sense which can relate to the people and the communities of New York City, have a watch and form your opinion on whether this is a great idea?

Whilst I watched this video, it made me realize, why not re-create this idea everywhere and anywhere, I mean yeah financing it would be one big factor that would come into play, but we are all moaning about there's not enough space in the big city, so why not think under? why not build a city with in a city but underground? It could be something that I may look into basing my final major project on, coming up with a re-imagining of a City but under ground.

What's next in 3D printing?

Whats next in 3D printing?

Avi Reichental explains in this Ted Talks video what the endless possibilities of what the 3D printer can do, very exciting and at the same time ever so impressive, have a watch and get inspired.

Its made me think about what I can do in relation with architecture, for example building small models of a kitchen, and re-imagining it with another model but futuristic, the possibilities are endless and you can create so much fun with the 3D printer.

If you haven't heard of this website you shouldn't exist in the world of art and design.

This is my go to website if I need a little inspiration, it has all the latest low down on art and design, even promotes jobs in certain fields in art and design, has a magazine you can subscribe to, watch movies on all things art design, and even more impressive has its own watch store, with all the latest brands and designers on display; what more do you want.

I have posted the link below, go check it out, you never know you may find yourself buying a watch.

Music Video

OKGO

The band OKGO are renowned for their quirky, fun and interactive videos, but the latest one that they have produced is completely out of this world, after watching it once you need to go back and watch it for a second time because its visually brilliant, it must of taken a while to come up with the idea but the execution is perfect.

Furthermore it has definitely opened my eyes up for a few ideas of my own and what to do with my final major project.

Take a look down below see what you think.

Finally at the end of the video you can access there interactive website and it takes you through step by step of how they produced all the scenes, very fascinating.

Wellcome Collection

Wellcome Collection

This exhibition was cleverly constructed, quite a small space however the layout and arrangement was refreshingly delightful. The style of work was varied and the small details make this exhibition worth going to. I would recommend this not only to medical students, but anyone in the future planning to have an exhibition it gives you a sense of perspective on space and what you can do with it.

I have posted the link below, go on click it.
